Weekly Economic Outlook: Andrew Hilton’s take on what has been keeping him awake over the last week Why you should watch: Well, for one, the FT has had a serious change of heart on Sweden – though I didn’t read a mea culpa. More important, perhaps, there are growing doubts about how long the recovery from Covid depths can be sustained; real-time data is starting to cause concern in both the UK and US. Plus, there’s the US election – now very much Biden’s to lose as cities burn around both candidates. And then there’s China – and, for euro-masochists, the debate over the importance of last week’s Council deal on a Recovery & Resilience Fund: is it really the EU’s ‘Hamilton moment’? (Answer: almost certainly not – but it is important.) The weekly Economic Outlook series by the CSFI’s director, Andrew Hilton, where he discusses his view on the current crisis, what impact it is having on the global economy and what we may be missing. Andrew is a former World Bank economist, who also ran a small economic consultancy advising international clients, particularly in the Middle East. He has an MA from New College, Oxford, an MBA from Wharton, and an MA and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Thouron Scholar and Kent Fellow.
