Did Kerala’s coronavirus strategy really work?’
Some of the first COVID-19 cases to hit India were in the southwestern state of Kerala. The discovery prompted swift action from state health officials and for months their efforts have been lauded for flattening the exposure curve.
But a recent rise in cases has sounded an alarm and now some people are questioning if the state ever really had a handle on the virus. Health officials, though, attribute the increase in numbers to people returning from other states and countries.
On this episode of The Stream, we discuss Kerala’s initial success, its latest surge and ask what health officials are doing right now.
