A warning issued by the United State’s top health official that the nation could see 100,000 new infections per day “doesn’t seem too far off,” according to the Perth USAsia Centre’s Gordon Flake.
White House Infectious Diseases Expert Dr Anthony Fauci warned the US Senate that there could be 100,000 new COVID-19 cases per day, saying not enough people are adhering to social distancing rules or wearing masks.
“There is an estimated 2.6 million active cases in the United States right now,” Mr Flake told Sky News.
“Just yesterday the United States set a new record at 46,000 new cases.
“So the numbers Dr Fauci was warning of don’t seem too far off and they’re certainly of great concern to anyone who cares about the people and economy of the United States.
“A grim day indeed.”
